STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS (Senior and Junior)

Reporting to the Manager, Structural Engineering, the successful candidates will be responsible for leading/assisting with the structural analysis and design of commercial, industrial, institutional and residential buildings as well as bridges and related transportation infrastructure. Preparation of technical reports, building condition assessments and site inspections will also be required. The candidate will be asked to perform calculations and will prepare plan and specification documents. Further duties will include attending coordination meetings as required, performing contract administration activities for construction and rehabilitation of bridges and buildings, and supervision / mentoring / training of junior technicians and engineers.

Knowledge in the design of concrete, wood, masonry and steel structures using the latest building codes is required as is a solid understanding of Canadian construction practices.  Excellent knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code is required.  Demonstrated ability to work with architects, building owners, contractors, and other consultants to collaboratively develop innovative, cost effective solutions for new construction, remodeling as well as maintenance and repair work is absolutely critical.  AutoCAD drafting, BIM/REVIT Modelling and working knowledge in structural analysis software is a definite asset.

 

The successful candidate must be a current P.Eng in Ontario with 7-10 years (Senior) or 1-3 years (Junior) of Structural Engineering experience in the areas mentioned above.  The candidate must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License.  This position will require the candidate to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERS (Senior and Junior)

Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Engineering, the successful candidates will be responsible for leading/assisting with the mechanical design of commercial, industrial, institutional and residential systems as well as energy audits, building/asset condition assessments, construction cost estimates and scope and feasibility studies. Preparation of technical reports, assessments and site inspections will also be required. The candidate will be asked to perform calculations and will prepare plan and specification documents. Further duties will include attending coordination meetings as required, performing contract administration activities and supervision / mentoring / training of junior technicians and engineers.

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering, the successful candidates will be responsible for leading/assisting with the electrical design of commercial, industrial, institutional and residential systems as well as power distribution and protection systems, interior and exterior lighting solutions, UPS systems, building/asset condition assessments, construction cost estimates and scope and feasibility studies. Preparation of technical reports, assessments and site inspections will also be required. The candidate will be asked to perform calculations and will prepare plan and specification documents. Further duties will include attending coordination meetings as required, performing contract administration activities and supervision / mentoring / training of junior technicians and engineers.

SURVEY FIELD TECHNICIAN

Reporting to the Manager, Surveys and Plans, the successful candidate will be involved in assisting party chiefs with manual, total station, and GPS surveys in accordance with project requirements. Manual labor such as line cutting and staking will be required. Candidates will also verify that suitable and sufficient data is available for plans processing and will assist with developing engineering plans, profiles, and cross-sections from field data. Candidates will gain experience using a variety of surveying equipment and techniques.

Full Description

Successful candidates must be physically fit and are expected to work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions on various types of terrains. Valid Class “G” driver’s license and good driving record are required. Considerable travel may be required. Must be willing to work independently or as part of a team and know how to follow verbal or written instructions.

Previous experience in engineering or construction surveying or the civil engineering field in general is a definite asset, as is a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or related discipline.

FIELD TESTING TECHNICIAN

Reporting to the Manager of Field Services, successful candidates will be involved in field and laboratory testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, mortar and bituminous paving mixture for a variety of clients all over Northwestern Ontario. Candidates will be required to work independently, observe and report abnormalities and verify procedures. Accurate data entry will be required.

Successful candidates will have graduated from a related post-secondary program OR have a minimum of 5 years experience in the testing of concrete, aggregate, soils and asphalt by performing routine and complex testing procedures.  A valid “G” driver’s license and a good driving record are required.  The position involves lifting heavy samples and the ability to work in various weather conditions.

Out of town work and shift work (for example 2 weeks on, two weeks off) will be required.  All overtime will be paid in accordance with Ontario legislation.  Applicants must be familiar with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and policies.  A working knowledge of computerized test reporting in Word, Excel and Word Perfect would also be a definite asset. GEOTECHNICAL DRILLER

Reporting to the Manager, Drilling Services, successful candidates will be involved in Geotechnical and Environmental drilling projects throughout Northwestern Ontario. Drilling services include solid stem auguring, groundwater monitoring well installation and decommissioning, subsurface condition investigations, soil sampling, aggregate source investigation and construction site assessments.

Successful candidates will have a minimum of 2 years experience operating drill rigs.  Experience with soil sampling or geotechnical investigations is an asset, but is not required.  A valid “G” driver’s license and a good driving record are required; an AZ license is an asset, but not required.  The position involves heavy lifting and the ability to work in various weather conditions.

Intermediate Structural Engineer

Reporting to the Structural Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will assist with structural analysis and design of commercial, industrial, institutional and residential buildings and bridges as well as preparation of technical reports, building condition assessments and site inspections.

Further duties will include attending coordination meetings when required and assisting senior departmental staff with structural analysis, structural modeling, and structural calculations as required. Field work in the form of construction contract administration supervision and inspection may also be required.

Knowledge in the design of concrete, wood, masonry and steel structures using the latest building codes is required as is a solid understanding of Canadian construction practices. Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code would be a definite asset as would demonstrated ability to work with architects, building owners, contractors, and other consultants to collaboratively develop innovative, cost effective solutions for new construction and remodeling projects. Reporting to the Lab Manager and/or Supervisor, successful candidates will perform routine and complex testing for concrete, aggregate, soil and asphalt for a variety of clients all over Northwestern Ontario. Candidates will be required to work independently, observe and report abnormalities and verify procedures. Accurate data entry will be required.

Successful candidates will have graduated from a related post secondary program OR have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in the testing of concrete, aggregate, soils and asphalt by performing routine and complex testing procedures.  A valid “G” driver’s licence and a good driving record are required.  The position involves lifting heavy samples up to approximately 25 kg and the ability to stand for long periods of time.

Demonstrated technical abilities, together with knowledge of relevant specifications, procedures, test methods, and material science construction procedures are a definite asset.

Out of town work and shift work (for example 2 weeks on, two weeks off) may be required. All overtime will be paid in accordance with Ontario legislation. All travel expenses will be covered by the Company. Applicants must be familiar with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and policies. A working knowledge of computerized test reporting in Word, Excel and Word Perfect would also be a definite asset.
