Materials Engineering Technician – Kenora

Position Description
We are seeking motivated, adaptable, and technically skilled Materials Engineering Technicians to join our growing team and contribute to a wide range of projects. This role offers the opportunity to work across both our Field and Laboratory divisions, supporting materials testing and inspection for infrastructure, construction, and engineering projects. This position is based out of our Kenora, Ontario branch office.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performing soil, concrete, asphalt, and other material sampling and testing both on-site and in the laboratory.
  • Completing compaction testing using a nuclear gauge.
  • Documenting and reporting all test results.
  • Maintaining and calibrating testing equipment.
  • Supporting senior technicians and engineers in data collection and analysis.
  • Adhering to all health, safety, and quality control protocols.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with testing procedures for soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate materials, a class G driver’s license and a willingness to work in a variety of locations and settings. A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field is an asset.

This position is classified as full time seasonal. Rate of pay will be commensurate with related experience and qualifications ($23.00 + per hour). We are seeking motivated and versatile Civil Technicians to take on new challenges and support a wide range of projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across multiple divisions, including Field and Laboratory Services, Surveying, CAD and Civil Design, and Contract Administration.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Field and Laboratory Services:
    • Perform soil, concrete, asphalt, and other material sampling and testing on-stie and in the laboratory.
  • Surveying:
    • Participate in a variety of surveying and data collection projects.
  • CAD and Design
    • Process survey data and assist with Civil design using MicroSurvey, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Contract Administration
    • Perform on-site inspection and ensure compliance to standards and codes on highway, roadway and other construction projects.

 

Qualifications

Survey Assistant / Drafting Technician

The successful candidate will assist with on-going surveying and drafting projects.  Responsibilities include:

  • Completing and coordinating land surveys involving:
    • Working with project managers and party chiefs to successfully undertake legal, engineering and construction surveys.
    • Managing equipment and resources.
    • Traveling to job sites and traversing sometimes challenging terrain.
  • Drafting and processing survey data using MicroSurvey and AutoCAD software.
  • Performing title searches and calculations.

Qualifications

Leading in oversight of new and on-going legal survey projects with TBTE’s Geomatics Division.

Position Responsibilities
• Completing and coordinating land surveys involving:
o Retracement of original township boundaries and water boundaries
o Preparation of reference and registered plans for severances, subdivisions, condominiums, mining claims, and Crown lands
o Topographic and volumetric surveys utilizing all technologies, including drone data capture.
• Performing title searches, calculations and drafting
• Working with clients to identify and define project requirements, scope, and objectives.
• Perform project management, including oversight of budget, and supervision of assigned staff.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the designation of Ontario Land Surveyor. Additional accreditation as a Canada Land Surveyor, or a commitment to obtaining such recognition, is highly regarded. Proficiency in industry-standard software, particularly MicroSurvey, will be advantageous.
